Known Issues
The following is a list of current known issues with Riorad Explorer. For each issue, there is a short description in bold, a more detailed description, an evaluation of the issue, and a suggested fix or workaround. The short descriptions are color-coded as follows:
- Green - The issue is not really a bug or has a full and complete fix or workaround.
- Yellow - The issue has a partial workaround.
- Red - The issue currently has no workaround and will require a new release to be fixed.
General
Cannot drag and drop Rio files back to the PC.
- Detail: When attempting to drag and drop Rio files from the right pane of the Riorad window to a PC folder in the left pane of the same window, the cursor remains a slashed-circle, prohibiting a drop.
- Evaluation: This is a limitation of the Windows shell that we are still investigating, and only affects drag and drop from a Rio folder in the right pane to a PC folder in the left pane of the same window.
- Fix/Workaround: Dragging a PC file from the right pane to a Rio folder in the left pane should work. You should also be able to drag Rio files to the Desktop or to the left or right pane of a second, separate Explorer window. You can also use the "Copy to Computer..." or Copy and Paste features to transfer files to the PC.
Cannot perform any drag and drop in Windows ME.
- Detail: In Windows ME, if you launch Riorad Explorer from the Desktop shortcut or the systray icon, you may not be able to drag and drop to or from the Riorad window.
- Evaluation: This appears to be an idiosyncrasy in Microsoft's shell implementation in Windows ME, since this problem does not appear in 98, 98SE, 2000, or XP. We are still investigating, but this may be a bug in Windows ME, and not Riorad Explorer. Fortunately, there is a workaround.
- Fix/Workaround: This problem only occurs when launching Riorad from the Desktop shortcut or the systray icon. If instead you open Explorer from the My Computer shortcut on the Desktop and then navigate to your Rio, drag and drop should work fine.
Can only transfer a handful of files at once using Send To.
- Detail: When using Send To to transfer files to the Rio, Windows gives an error if you have more than a few files selected.
- Evaluation: This is a limitation of Windows' own implementation of the Send To mechanism.
- Fix/Workaround: If you need to perform a large transfer, simply use drag and drop, or copy and paste, which do not have transfer limits.
Cannot disconnect Riorad from Rio using systray menu.
- Detail: After selecting "Disconnect Rio..." from the systray menu, Riorad disconnects, but then immediately reconnects.
- Evaluation: This occurs if you still have Riorad Explorer windows open when you try to disconnect. The Explorer windows trigger automatic reconnects as long as they are open, this is what allows you to open a Riorad Explorer window and auto-connect in one step.
- Fix/Workaround: Make sure all your Riorad Explorer windows are closed before disconnecting.
After closing Riorad Explorer, cannot open new Explorer windows.
- Detail: After closing Riorad, no further Explorer windows of any type can be opened by any means.
- Evaluation: A small number of systems appear to have a conflict with one of Riorad's performance options.
- Fix/Workaround: Select "Folder Options..." from Windows Explorer's "Tools" menu. On the "View" tab, disable the "Launch folder windows in a separate process" option, reboot, and everything should be fine.

Rio Riot
Riorad shows zero files, even though there are files on your Riot.
- Detail: After connecting to your Riot and opening Riorad Explorer, Riorad indicates there are no files on the Riot even though there are.
- Evaluation: The original driver shipped with the Riot and the 1.1 beta currently available on the Rio website do not properly support Riorad Explorer.
- Fix/Workaround: Download and install the Rio universal drivers. These are the drivers included with the newer Rio models but they are fully backward compatible with the Riot and support Riorad properly.
To install, first make sure your Riot is on and plugged in. Unzip the driver files to a folder such as C:
iodriver. Then open up the System applet under the Windows Control Panel. Go to the Hardware tab and open the Device Manager. In the device tree, expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on Rio Riot and select "Properties". Click on the Driver tab and click "Update Driver...". When Windows asks for the directory where the driver can be found, direct it to the folder where you unzipped the driver files earlier.

Karma
Delay after pressing RioStick to continue.
- Detail: After making a change to the contents of the Karma (upload file, update playist, etc.), the Karma displays "FINISHED: Press RioStick to continue." When you press the RioStick, the Karma displays "WAIT: Please wait a moment..." and stays in the waiting state, up to a couple of minutes, before returning control to the on-board buttons. This period of delay appears to be related to the number of tracks stored on the Karma. It is not a hang, but rather it appears the Karma is reindexing some data after the change.
- Evaluation: This appears to be a bug in the version of the Rio library we use to communicate with the Karma.
- Fix/Workaround: The problem has been fixed in release 8.3.5 and later. Please upgrade to the latest release.
